Minimal Violence: InDreams (Colored Vinyl) Vinyl LP

Vancouver’s Minimal Violence see little point in subtlety. The darker side of techno has been in vogue for quite a while now (L.I.E.S., White Material, Bank etc.) but has remained very much underground - secret warehouse raves, unmarked white labels, et al. A lack of proper venues and infrastructure has pushed DIY punk and underground electronic music closer together, which has caused an apparent aesthetic shift from studious IDM-inspired minimal techno to rugged, punk-indebted EBM. The tracks on Indreams were originally written as live hardware sets, worked out in front of a live audience before being given some studio spit and polish. The record is inspired by early Industrial music and Cyberpunk literature, but avoids boilerplate references and cliche aesthetics. The music is immediate and visceral, a solid entry in the lineage that includes fellow Canadians Skinny Puppy and Front Line Assembly. “June Anthem” is camera flash snares and punching bag toms over a digital hardcore bassline, “New Hard Catch” is fierce, backspun breaks at a heart-racing BPM. This record is pressed on 180g white vinyl and comes packaged in a matte silkscreened sleeve, Also Includes a fold-out poster and sticker.
